Please pardon the OT message, but I am stuck.
I just purchased an Compaq Presario 1700. It comes with ME. I need to load 2K. 2K works great except there is no sound, network and mode driver available from the manufacturer for this device. Compaq support can not help.
Is there a Compaq developer of the list who knows about these devices? Here is what i need:
- ESS 1988 driver
- Conexant network and modem driver
I would be forever grateful if someone could help me.
Jamey
Jamey,
We ran into the same problem with a Sony machine just last week. I used the NIC card driver from ME and it worked fine on 2K. I just grabbed the .INF and .SYS and it rocked. The modem driver might be a different story. As for sound…you might want to see if the Compaq came with a “Application Recovery CD” like our Sony machines did and then try to install the Sound card drivers/software from there. The drivers should work but you are most likely going to run into .INF/Setup issues…
To overcome those, you might have to work at editing the .INF…
