Hi,
i m pretty much trying to figure out whether to buy a null modem cable
connector or a firewire card coz my machine doesnt have it for kernel
debugging.
are there any issues of one being better over another that will help me
make a choice. i ve heard some talk about 1394 not adequately serving the
purpose of kernel debugging?

1394 has shown itself to be pretty fiddly to get working, and there is
plenty of history (on this list
(http:L=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.osronline.com%2Ftexis.exe%2Fwebinator%2Fsearch%2F&nam
e=index_fullframeset.cfm>, or, if that’s broken,
http://tinyurl.com/2v4xa) and in WinHEC presentations
(http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/debugstart.mspx, looks
for the 1394 debugging presentation)) to support that. But goodness for
debugging ultimately comes down to the amount of bandwisth available
between debugging partner machines, and it’s hard to beat 1394 for
bandwidth until USB 2.0 comes out…
So, if you’re willing to invest the time to get it working properly,
1394 would be MY choice if I was making the decision today and didn’t
have infrastructure to support serial already laying around.
