Missing TCPIP in network properties

In the process of adding and removing network components,
I seem to have messed up my registry such that Microsoft
TCPIP is now missing from the list of components when
I select properties for my network adapter.

It is still in the system and running because I can run
ipconfig, and connect to the outside world - it’s just not
displayed. The result of which is that I can not reconfigure
my network (IP address, etc).

I’ve tried a repairing the installation and reinstalling the service
pack, each without success.

Furthermore, if I select “install” within the network properties
window in an attempt to reinstall it, it immediately fails
with the error “The system cannot find the file specified”.

Does anyone know what’s wrong? Can anyone tell me
what registry entries determine what will be listed in
the network properties window?

Thanks for your help.
