Silly me, assuming the first version I found on the MS web site would be
the correct version (the *documentation* says it works on amd64, but it
is an earlier version than the number you quoted.)
Well, back to searching the MS website - the term “kernrate” turns up
plenty of pages so it is a matter of finding the “latest” one.
Thanks for the insight.

Tony,
you need to download the latest version of kernrate from a Microsoft
web site. I took me 5-10 minutes to find it.
I use kernrate.exe version 5.2.3790.1173 on my W2K3SP1 x64
system without problems.

Subject: [ntdev] kernrate for W2K3 SP1 x64?
Kernrate is documented as being supported on amd64, however in trying to
use
it I find that it doesn’t quite work the same as it does for x86; I’m
wondering if anyone else has observed these results.
Specifically, in the x86 environment I run kernrate looking at lock
contention: “kernrate -W -xk”; in a separate window I run my test and
when
that finishes type Control-C in the first windows. Kernrate then spews
out
its information and I run off to correlate the lock contention
information
with the locks in the driver.
In my x64 environment, I start kernrate without problems, run my test.
However, when I type control-C in the kernrate environment, kernrate
just
terminates. I have also tried some of the timed kernrate options (where
it
runs for a period of time and then exits) but it never exits for me.
Thus, I’m wondering - has anyone actually used kernrate successfully on
a
released version of W2K3SP1 x64 based system successfully? If so, have
any
tricks to share?
