Is WDK 6000 good enough for production

Hi,
When I installed WDK I thought it was a GAed version and therefore good to build drivers for win2000/win2k3. However, the release notes clearly states that this is an eval version only.
Quote:

WDK Build Environments
When to Use This WDK
Use the WDK build environments in this version of the WDK for evaluation and preview purposes only. Do not use these WDK build environments for production-level coding. At this time, you should use the Windows Server 2003 SP1 DDK for production.

So, is it safe for production code or not?

Thanks,
Eran.

That has to be a mistake, and it’s a doozy. The 6000 WDK is the final one.

That had better be a doc error. WDK 6000 is RTM and is supposed to be a
production WDK.

I too have a doubt whether build 6000 is going to be the final or production quality because samples like clasfilt.htm state in red at the top: “This is preliminary documentation and subject to change”. And technically speaking, the WDK is still under the beta classification.

I am afraid that this is just poor editing of the release notes and sample
HTM files.

There are bugs in the WDK documentation that I reported during the Beta
cycle that aren’t fixed as well. Generally these were differences between
the Help text and what is actually in the WDK headers (e.g., field names in
structures and some outright omissions).

I think they focused on the code at the expense of non-code helper files,
which is going to be an ongoing problem for us.

WDK 6000 is going to be “golden” until at least Vista SP1.
