For the past two years, we’ve been diligently working to bring up a sort of
“technical home page” for Windows driver writers. We think we’re finally
done, and we’re going to officially announce it at WinHEC.
http://www.osronline.com
What’s available at this site?
- Every issue of The NT Insider on-line (articles are posted in “real time”,
before the issue is mailed). You can even leave comments on the articles or
ask questions.
- Hector’s memos – Quick takes and breaking news that’ll help you avoid
problems
- The Online DDK – Not only can you search and read the DDK, but you can
leave comments on a particular page, and read comments posted by others.
This approach has been very successful in the open source community, and
we’re glad to be able to bring it to the Windows DDK.
- Jobs Exchange – A place for companies to post job opportunities, and for
Windows system software professionals seeking greener pastures to post
resumes.
- All OSR’s cool utilities for downloading in one, easy to find, place.
Not to mention, tech stock quotes and the latest tech news.
Check it out, and let us know what you think.

Peter,
nice site at first look. It is great to have NT Insider articles on line
(usually, when I need one at work, it is at home and vice versa :). The only
problem is it doesn’t work well in Mozilla. No problem if DDK on line is
MSIE only but why other pages? I prefer to not use MSIE for security reasons
(and prefer to not play Russian Roulette, too). I’d like to know if I’m only
one who sees it as a problem; that’s why I post it to the list. If not, I
guess your site deserves exception and I’ll use MSIE.
Thanks.

I like the style of the home page but the blue on purply blue of the
contents list makes it the devil’s own trouble to read!

Thanks for the feedback… We’ve had some trouble with the CSS;
I see WHITE on purply blue. Are you seeing the links “about this site”,
“The NT Insider”, etc. in BLUE?
(we can take this offline)

I didn’t even know there WAS a Mozilla anymore.
I just tried it, and except for a differing interpretation over style sheets
(resulting in links having the wrong color), and some other strange ordering
things, the site seems to work pretty well in Mozilla. I was impressed that
Mozilla apparently understands several “IE-only” window attributes). We’ll
look at the color problem (I can see that it’s REALLY annoying).
The Online DDK uses some window and document properties that are IE
specific. I’ve changed the pop-up to just warn you, instead of blocking all
access. At least that way you can use the full-text search of the DDK. And
I’ll try to see if I can’t get the user comments window to pop up under
Mozilla (they SORT of work under Opera, but you have to constantly click the
“toggle user comments” box – twice – to get them to show up.

I second this; most of our developers use mozilla. That said, it looks
fine to me (Mozilla 1.3 for Linux).
Great site; thanks.

I like NPR as much as the next person, but what’s the point?

Another oddity in (re)registering for NT Insider: The Web page doesn’t
accept 9-digit zip codes with an imbedded dash (even though my latest NT
Insider shows my 9-digit zip with dash).

I’m glad you were thoughtful enough to provide a printer-ready button in
artciles so that one can print something that prints cleanly, without
truncation on the right. I for one insist on reading long pieces of
information on paper. Now if only MS would do the same (for example,
when I print KB 320275 from IE 6, I get truncation).

People… Send this sort of thing to me offline, or send it to
xxxxx@osr.com.
I want to hear the feedback, but I’d prefer not to junk up this technical
forum with talk about our web page formats and the content of our
registration form.
To you questions:

Marketing wanted it. It went in. Nuf said?

Yeah, this’ll have to get fixed, eventually.

That’s the point. It’s free. We’re not asking for any money.
But we like sending out the hardcopies, and we like knowing who our readers
are, what they do, and where they’re located geographically.
That’s how we know, for example, that there are about 20K subscribes –
About 50% in the US and Canada.
And, no. We don’t sell our mailing list (and we’ve never done so, all
these years).

I didn’t even know there was a Mozilla until you mentioned it, Michal. I
spent a couple of hours on Saturday downloading it and checking the site
out. I fixed some of the style-sheet compatibility problems… There are a
few more to work out.
I also changed the “alert” in The Online DDK to just warn you if you’re not
using IE instead of blocking all access. Mozilla doesn’t seem to work at
all. Which is strange, because Opera almost works. I’ll put that on the
list of things to fix as well.

Hi, Peter,
I second the call to support Mozilla. It’s the choice web browser for Linux.
BTW, great site ! I love it.
Alberto.

Sounds to me like a good reason to make sure it DOESN’T work on the site

(After recovering from a near heart-attack, I’m going to assume
that you really *do* want to hear about incompatibilities.)
The page seems to work in general with mozilla 1.0 on my Linux/alpha.
It did make a rude comment when I clicked on “The Online DDK”,
then proceeded to open a window and not work anymore.
The address for web page support somewhere on the front page would
be nice.
