Incorrect Kernel symbols opening mini-dump on XP

I just setup a new pc with windbg Version 6.0.17.0. Note, my old pc works
fine with this same version of windbg.

I open a mini-dump and always get the error “***** Kernel symbols are
WRONG. Please fix symbols to do analysis.” My symbol search path is
“srv*c:\websymbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols” just as it
was on my other pc that works (and c:\websymbols directory does exist).
The only difference I can tell is that I’m running Windows XP now, versus
Windows 2000 previously.

Any ideas?

You are probably debugging a Windows 2000 minidump on XP.

For minidumps, you should always set the image path. On your W2K
machine this was not necessary because you were probably debugging W2K
dumps from the same kernel version.

See -I and .exepath in debugger.chm.
