Hi,
we are having a problem with big volumes created under NT4 that are not
‘usable’ under W2000 2195.
We create an NTFS volume under NT4 that is 9GB large. We populate the volume
with as much as 4GB of data in several directories.
Then we restart under W2000 where we are able to see the volume, wich is
reported correctly as 9GB ,
but there is no directories at all in the disk. However W2000 reports 4Gb as
used, wich is exactly the
size occupied by data directories in this volume. (Note: the volumen is not
a boot partition)
If we return back to NT4 the directories are there.
Is there any compatibility problem with large NTFS volumes between NT4 and
W2000 ?
Thanks.
Inaki.
Could it be something like the ACL on the root doesn’t grant
FILE_LIST_DIRECTORY access to a broad-enough set of users & groups?
The Win2000 incarnation won’t use the same set of SIDs, other than
the well-known ones, as NT4 on the same machine.

To share NTFS volume between W2K and NT4 safely,
you must update NT4 to at leaset ServicePack 4.
