IFS kit

Hi all this is just to confirm…

  1. the current version of IFS kit available for buying is Win2K3 SP1 kit. Is
    that correct?
  2. What is the version of this kit?
  3. The ordering site
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/ifskit/ServerIFSKitOrderinfo.mspx says
the media is a CDROM. I have IFS kit version 3790 with me already, and it
came with a DVD with not only the kit but a lot of videos of MS seminars,
some power point presentations etc, are they still included with this
    version of the kit?
  4. If they are not, then where can i acquire these extra documentation and
    videos from?

Regards,

The version that I am aware of, does not have this extra documentation.
Maybe this is the explanation for the drop in pricing?

The IFS is also now included in the Vista WDK beta, if this works for
you.

…and what is the current DDK version?

The current DDK is Windows Server 2003 SP1 or build 3790.1830. As was
pointed out this is all moving to the WDK, which includes the DDK, IFS and
HCT in one release, with newer and better tools.

hi all,

I recently purchased and installed the latest version of IFS kit (3790.1830)
and was suprrised to find that some of the documentation that came with the
older verison (3790) is missing! For example in the Help section there used
to be something called “OSR White Papers”, a very rich source of file system
documentsion. This is not there in this version. WHY is that so?

Also, the previous kit used to come in a DVD and had a lot of videos of
seminars, those are also missing. Why so?

HOW DO I GET THESE EXTRA DOCUMENTATION AND VIDEOS. WITHOUT THEM TH NEW KIT
LOOKS WORTHLESS, AS THE OLD ONE IS WORKING FINE IN MY CASE

From what I saw, most of the OSR White Papers were NT Insider articles
that can be accessed online.

Also, the previous kit used to come in a DVD and had a lot of videos
of seminars, those are also missing. Why so?

Of the several different kits I’ve used\played with, I’ve yet to see one
with video’s. Curious, what specifically are these seminar videos about
that you speak of?

BearShare? BitTorrent? Channel9?

Matty,

Even I have the older version of the Kit, the guy is right. It did come with
a lot of extra documentaion ( DVD full of stuff).

M$ file system seminars etc, and may be even some of the OSR ones(I am not
too sure, saw it around 2 1/2 yrs back, and at that time OSR didn’t make any
sense to me). Also I had several poperpoint presentations, if I remember
correctly, they were the slides being projected in the Videos and being
explained. Though I have a very vagues recollection.

Some old timer could throw some light on this issue…

PS:- A. P, I think these PDFs you are talking about are now inside the CHM
help file under OSR papers section, just check…

Isn’t it a DVD from PlugFest or so ?

Ladik,

If I remember properly, my employer only brought IFS kit at that time, does
anyone here remember if the plugfest DVD came bundled with IFSkit ever?

BTW, where can I buy this plugfest DVD?

I was at the PlugFest last summer and we did get a copy of the IFS Kit that supported the filter manager. It was not the official version for production use and I purchased the IFS Kit soon after. No extras, but some other versions had a DVD.

Yes, at one point the IFS kit included the DVD with the videos from the file
system developer conference (held in 1994, I think), and a bunch of
slides/videos from various plugfests. I think this additional DVD may have
been dropped when the IFS kit price dropped from US$1000 to US$109. It was
around that time, anyway…

While it would be nice to see the various videos available again, they ARE
quite dated (as I should know), and are useful only as guidelines, much like
the Rajeev Nagar book. Since they are MSFT copyrighted works, MSFT would
need to make them available through any other mechanism. The DVD is not
available in any form I’m away of other than with the old IFS kit.

Or maybe we could talk them into doing the file system (filter) conference
all over again with modern information…

Yes, there was an IFS kit set circa 3-August-2001 from Plugfest 4. It
contained 2 DVD’s with videos and ppts from the original 1994 IFS
conference, some ppts on W2K Storage (1999) and the Plugfest4, November
2000 talks.

This is the only IFS kit in my archives with more than just the DDK +
IFS kits. It is also marked “Not for resale” which implies it was only
for the Plugfest attendees.
