Ideas For Affordable IA-64 Development Platforms

Like in the movies, the “stars” of the driver development arena seem to get
development resources free (e.g., see SysInternals Mark Russinovich “MY
ITANIUM EXPERIENCES” at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sysinternals/message/15). It’s those of us who
don’t “shine” quite as much that must save pennies to afford to have the
same “experiance”.

I am considering upgrading some of my products to support the 64-bit
versions of Windows XP. However, development tools seem cost prohibitive.
For example, a 733MHz dual Itanium workstation seems to go for about US$14K.

Are hints for cost-effective dual-processor Itanium development platform
solutions?

Regards to you all,

oYah … Wouldn’t it be nice to have Intel call me up and ask if I’d like to
test my drivers on one of their 4 processor Itaniums, including a loaded
(hardware and software) Itanium for development … and of course Verizon
then notifies me that they will have DSL to my house with in the week so I
can include their system in the overall testing …

Oh well … back to plugging along on my 16 meg, Dell Pentium (no not a PI,
II, or III, just a plain ol’ Pentium)
