When you tested, have you used one of those from HP or DELL ?
If so, any recommendation, insight as to its performance etc…

Admittedly I haven’t done it with any “down and dirty” drivers, but I have
tested quite a number of drivers on IA64. All but one compiled first time
and worked as expected. The exception only needed a small edit.
I’d hand that as a testament to the MS DDK guys in spending all that time
over the last few years ensuring such a compatible environment. Unless you
need to touch native assembler, it shouldn’t matter what the target
environment is, the DDK just builds it.
Right now, all my sources, kernel and user mode are truly single source for
32 and 64 bit platforms. I expect that if the next Platform SDK or DDK
includes an AMD64 build environment that I will still compile and run first
time out.
Of course there will be exceptions, but right now the only time I need
wonder what kind of chip is underneath me is in the install code so I pick
the right binaries.
Mark.

Before investing that kind of cash I’d play wait-on-see. It’s looking to me
like IA64 is not going to make it in the marketplace. My bet is that the
market will coalesce around AMD’s 64-bit x86 compatible line and Intel will
be forced to match it with its not-so-secret Yamhill ‘Plan B’ chip. It would
certainly make our lives as driver developers that much easier. But who
asked me…

I don’t think you will find a new machine in your price range,
if my memory serves me correctly Intel is charging close to
that for the chip.

Thanx Bi,
My google search showed up HP, Dell, and Silicon Graphics. Also it would be
an ongoing effort, so we are not really looking for intel lab…
I was thinking if there are some who does cloans, just like ia32 PCs, also I
am not sure if there is MotherBoard available, so that we can build it if
needed.
Yes you are right about HP, since they are active participant of this
architecture…

I am not sure using it in Intel lab is your option. If you want to save $
you must be local to whereever the lab is.
Has anyone tired of the Dell dude guy. My view is don’t buy anything from
Dell, even if it is a little bit cheaper. Dell contributes nothing to
computer industry. Since when anyone see any technology developed from Dell
that benefited the industry in general? Dell is no more than leaches and
take advantage of others R&D and innovations. I would rather buy from HP
since at least it has R&D lab that is contributing (the very IA64 EPIC
itself and so many other things) and will continue to contribute to the
industry.
I don’t hold a single share of either HP or Dell.

Could anyone pls suggest any model that we can get under 3000 bucks …
We just need the base station, other we can plug in along the way… And it
should be MS 64bit OS compatible …
Thanx in adv
