If you can take a course from one of the excellent firms (OSR the host of
this group is one) that offer classes. Driver development is different
enough that learning it from an expert is good if you can.

You need to have the DDK (Device Driver Kit), if you do not have it you can
get it with the KMDF (Kernel Mode Driver Framework) at
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/wdf/KMDF_pkg.mspx. You will also need
the WinDBG debugger, see
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/debugstart.mspx. To use
WinDBG you will need either two machines (a development and a testbed
system) or a virtualization package to host two environements.

Two excellent sources of infomation are the papers at osronline and
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/. I am biased but I believe a good paper to
get started with is “Getting Started with the Windows Driver Development
Environment”
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/foundation/DrvDev_Intro.mspx.

Install DDK from MSDN and read the samples. If something is not clear -
read the MSDN docs.
