How to create TMF file from pdb? How to open inbox driver trace log?

Hi all , I want to open inbox win 7 driver 's trace output. I found Microsoft don’t document the method to enable debug output of inbox driver.

Do anyone has information about this subject? Most of Win7 inbox driver are using WDF tracing in their code.the tracing log is very useful for debug.

I try to use the tracepdb to generate the TMF file from *.pdb .It always show “WPPFMT No Trace entries found”.

thanks

The PDB files that Microsoft ships strip the WPP tracing data out of them.
You are not going to be able to watch the tracing except where Microsoft
ships the TMF.

This is a frequent request… Microsoft does in fact publish parsing capabilities for some of the Windows components. For instance, these are published NetMon parsers:

Here’s how to use them for USB trouble-shooting, very useful indeed, Philip Ries’ blogging is much appreciated:

If your particular need is not covered, I recommend you talk to the relevant Microsoft group and they might consider releasing that particular info too.

But neither of these is what the OP is asking for. Yes there is a tool for
parsing a network protocol and a yes the blog posting explains how to use a
Microsoft supplied TMF. But the OP is thinking that Microsoft gives the
complete PDB file for all components and that they can get a TMF from it,
this is not the case. The TMF’s that are availalbe to users are stripped of
much of their data.

Don,

OP says that “I want to open inbox win 7 driver 's trace output”. That’s exactly what my answer helps with.

You’re certainly correct with respect to the publicly available Microsoft PDBs.

Thanks for your information. I follow you link. Now , I can view the log about the usbport log.

But I want to view the trace log about bthusb.sys and bthport.sys.

thanks

I am 99% sure bthusb and bthport do not have public TMF files for either win7 or vista
