How to avoid LPT power down?

Hi,

Win2k allows to free an LPT from the grip of the parallel driver by disabling it in the Device Manager or via the SetupDi functions. This comes in handy if you want to access a parallel port with your own driver.

However, it appears that some new motherboards power down the port hardware when the LPT gets disabled - or make it unaccessible by some other trick. In any case, the port won’t work any longer.

What would be the *easiest* way to avoid this? How can I release a port from the NT parallel driver without switching the port hardware off?

Thanks in advance for any hints.
