help in file system

hi ,
Is there any way to find out the refrences of file in the system?
I mean , if i select any file means i need to find out whether that files
is already opened by some application or not (application details are not
necessary).Is there any way to find out this? I mean any api in both win32
or in kernel mode ? Any body have idea on this?

There’s a utility in the Win2K resource kit called “OH” that will provide this information. This is a debugging tool that requires a reboot.

Are you wishing to do this programmatically? There’s also a utility available from http://www.sysinternals.com called NTHANDLE that provides similar information, but does not require a reboot.
