HCT errata

Hello,

I have a question about HCT errata 1481. It can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwtest/search/details.aspx?Type=err&ID=1481

An excerpt from the above: "The PCI Compliance test fails when it tests
SMBus controllers that use the class 12 and subclass 05. By design, the PCI
Compliance test does not test SMBus controllers. This device class/subclass
is exempt from testing. "

Note that the errata is for Universal category. I don’t think SMBus
controllers would fall into that.

Due to this errata, this failure is considered acceptable for WHQL
submissions.

Now, my question is this: Is this exemption available to any device under
test or only if the device under test is an SMBus controller? I think it is
available to any Universal category device and the test can fail simply
because there is an SMBus controller on the motherboard. Is this correct?

Thanks,

Monish

Have you actually emailed MS themselves asking too?

Contrary to expectations WHQL support has been very good at responding
to questions and when helping with problems we’ve had in the past. Even
with things of quite a complicated nature.
