You should examine the FileMon source code (www.filemon.com). In
one way or the other, it should have everything you need. FileMon uses a
strategy where the names are discovered and cached during open/create and
removed from the cache during close.

How is FileMon doing with the ‘general’ coverage of filenames these days ?
I remeber when I looked at FileMon, it didn’t have any support for file
names on mapped remote drives or UNC paths.
BTW, the correct URL for FileMon is
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/filemon.shtml

Bartjan.

It’s been handling them since I first found out about it (back in
1997/8, not sure).
If you are referring to the 9x UNC paths, it was added this year, so
9x part also supports network names, now.
