finding the CD type in the CD driver

Hi All,

Is it possible to find out whether the CD in the drive is a Read only or
read-write or factory burnt.

Any information is helpful.

Thanks,
Kedar.

Most of the CD protection systems (like SafeDisc f.e.) do read ATIP from
inserted media. This command works on recordable and rewritable media and
fails on stamped.

However quite a lot of software (like CloneCD and Alohol 120% and Daemon
Tools) mangle this command response and emulate “no ATIP” always.

Send the READ DISC INFORMATION SCSI command to a drive, it returns a
structure which has some bits denoting this.
