FilterManager issues on Windows 2000

I had seen a post or article that mentioned issues running mini filters on
Windows 2000. I can’t find anything about it anymore. I’m about to write a
mini filter that needs to be run on Windows 2000 and later. Are there any
problems or differences I need to work around if I write a mini filter for
Windows 2000?

Thanks,

Jonathan

While it is not intuitively obvious, the version of filter manager that
runs on Windows 2000 is actually more recent than the version on XP.
Thus, the most restrictive mini-filter environment is XP, not W2K. As I
understand it, the W2K version is essentially the same as the W2K3 SP1
version.

Tony

Tony’s correct about the level of filter manager support in Windows 2000.

However, the filter manager for Windows 2000 requires Update Rollup 1 (or a
smaller hotfix) on top of SP4. That hasn’t received widespread deployment
for some reason, so be aware that you will need to check for it
before/during installation. This is no worse than checking for SP2 on XP,
but it’s an extra step you need to know about.
