Hi,
I have cloned the Windows Vista operating system on a virtual disk by using the inhouse built tool. but when I am trying to boot from the cloned image, I get the following message from the bootmgr.
Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
- Insert your Windows Installation disc and restart your computer.
- Choose your language settings and then click “Next.”
- Click “Repair your computer.”
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
I could get past this error by fixing the MBR on the cloned image. But after this, Again I am facing with one more error message.

I guess I am getting this error because of an invalid boot partition record in the BCD/Boot Sector with eaither BCD/Boot Sector still poiting to the earlier disk rather then the virtual disk .
Can somene please help me understand how different is the role of boot sector in Vista and what got changed from XP. Also more information on how BootMgr reads the BCD file, the role the GUIDS play in BCD, and how does boot signature help bootmgr pick the BCD file.
Any suggestion would be a great help.
Regards,
Prakash
