Hi List,
On one machine, the MSI package cannot install a signed PnP driver.
This is the error from setupapi.log:
[2007/08/24 14:29:27 2124.388]: @ 14:29:31.671 #I439 Verifying file
“E:\WINDOWS\system32\SET17.tmp” (key “PciSciCoInstaller.dll”) against
specific Authenticode™ catalog
“E:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\oem9.CAT”
failed. Error 0x800b0100: No signature was present in the subject.
[2007/08/24 14:29:27 2124.388]: @ 14:29:31.718 No signature was present in
the subject.
And there’s another one from the MSI log file:
DIFXAPP: INFO: ENTER UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices…
MSI (s) (A8!68) [14:17:48:187]: Closing MSIHANDLE (47) of type 790531 for
thread 2152
MSI (s) (A8!68) [14:18:04:843]: Creating MSIHANDLE (48) of type 790531 for
thread 2152
DIFXAPP: ERROR: RETURN UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices. (Error code
0x800B0100: No signature was present in the subject.)
The driver is built for Server 2003 32 Bit.
The installation works if I install the driver using the Upgrade
functionality from Device Manager.
I tried running the installer on other machines with same HW and SW
configuration and it runs fine.
Best regards,
Calin

Nevermind, I managed to find the source.
The MSI package decompresses the drivers into a folder which is not
deleted in the second upgrade run. It appears that this folder causes the
installer to fail. Deleting the decompressed folder before running the
upgrade MSI does the trick.
- installed an unsigned driver using the MSI
- deleted the temporary folder where the drivers were decompressed
- installed the signed driver using the MSI with an upgrade feature –> ok
