Driver startup problem...

Hi,

I am using a user-mode application to start a dynamic function driver, the user-mode app uses ::StartService in combination with ::CreateService to start the driver, of some reason ::StartService fails with “The system cannot find the file specified.” Although the file path used with ::CreateService is valid AND ::CreateService succeeds…

This problem happen on some computers and doesn’t happen on other computers, on all of the computers the driver is loaded with Administrative rights…

What may cause this problem?

Why does it happen on one computer while it doesn’t happen on other computer?

P.S.

My driver is dynamically extracted from the .rsrc section of the user-mode application before it is being started up…

Any help, comment or remark would be appreciated.

Naddav.

This will happen if the driver is located on a typical network share.
You might wish to use FileSpy or IrpTracker to observe the I/O
operations and determine what is failing.
