Driver For Printing to Apple Mac

This may be a bit off-topic for this forum but I’ll give it a shot. I just got a MAC for home use and we have our printer (a Canon PIXMA MP610) attached to the MAC. My PC and the MAC are on our local network router. I want to print to the MAC’s printer from my PC. Apple says that when configuring the PC printer that I want to use to route stuff to the MAC I need to configure it to use a post script driver, e.g. an Apple Laserwriter PS. However when I try that the printer installation process seems to know what kind of printer is on the MAC and that I am configuring the wrong driver for it. I’m hoping someone here knows how to get around this so that I can assign the driver that I want.
