I am on the connect download URL.
I’ve downloaded the WDK RTM build 6000 16386 dated 11/3/2006.
I’ve created a DVD from the iso image.
I installed it and it looks like it is the Vista OS only, not the WDK.
Is there some other place to download the build 6000 release or should I be
using the WDK 5840-16384 download on the connect download URL that is
described as “Expected final beta release of WDK prior to RTM”?
-Dave
BTW, If you follow the chain of URLs the WDK is supposed to be available to
MSDN subscribers and I can’t find it in MDSN online either.
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/default.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/wdf/KMDF_pkg.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/WDK/AboutWDK.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/wdk/betawdk.mspx
The ISO that I could download from connect is called WDK_6000.16386.061101-2205.iso
and DOES support all OS builds ! .

WDK_6000.16386.061101-2205.iso is the same binary I downloaded (2,434,506
KB).
I just tried running the DVD again on Vista instead of XPsp2 and I get the
same “Install Windows” dialog.
I’m going to try installing the 5840 1st and then try the DVD again. The
last WDF build I installed was 5600.
I looked at the files on the DVD and I didn’t see anything that would lead
me to believe the WDK was going to be installed. The dialog I get when
running the DVD setup.exe is:

If you insert the CD ( with autoplay enabled ) you should get a “Microsoft Windows Driver Kit Build 6000 Installer” window . I think
you have a kind of renamed “vista OS installation” CD disk. Are you sure the burning went ok ? You may also expand the ISO image
on your HD with for example UltraISO and run the setup from there.

I downloaded the iso image again and this time I got something I was
expecting. It is very strange because the second download has the same
name/properties as the first. I don’t have a Vista iso download on my
system so I don’t know what happened. Anyway, it looks like it’s back to
work.
Thanks
