Disk layout information

Hi,
I have a requirement to find disk layout of a volume, like its storage
manager, software raid type and disk extents with correct ordering. Can
someone suggest me ways to get this? ’

thanks

NTDEV,

Me too!

There are storage IOCTLs that provide the basic volume information. You can
find them listed in the DDK.

I’ve never been able to find documentation on the W2K soft-RAID format.
Supporting dynamic volumes isn’t too hard – you can even get information on
volumes that consist of multiple physical partitions; but I’ve not been able
to find anything that defines how a stripe set is configured or which
partition might contain the parity on RAID 1 & 5 volumes.

If you find a source, could you let me know?

BTW: The NT4 RAID format is documented in the NT4 DDK, if poorly. There’s
a header called something like ftdisk.h that contains all the definitions
you’d need. The actual description of the RAID volume is stored in the
registry on the system drive – which makes it difficult to move a RAID set
from one machine to another on NT4.

Good luck,
