Well there are multiple VirtualCd products that are available, Microsoft has
one on their beta sites, so that you can mount the ISO images they provide.
There have also been products that treat a file as a disk, so yes you can do
this, but it isn’t a standard shipping part of Windows.

Do you mean as in a ramdisk? If so then yes, and there at least used to be a
sample driver from Microsoft floating around. You need a device driver.
Microsoft and others (nero for example) have virtual iso image device

You need to a member of a Microsoft beta, if so you should find references
to the “Virtual CD Utilitiy” with an executable vcd.exe.

Won’t argue with that. My guess is that the iso image mounter will become a
standard OS utility. The ‘file as disk volume’ is less useful.

Excellent powers of observation Mark! I was going to reply to Jamey in
private but thought this might help with both his questions:
If I say “what’s it to you Mac”, does that give you a hint? Answer: NYC
area (Roslyn/Manhasset on Long Island)- but TX for 30+ years. Your next
email question re: ramdisk indicates you don’t quite get what I need. We
will generate files that are disk-images of CDs but could also be hard disk
images. The reason for this is that our VirtualSCSI product makes us look
like a SCSI disk (CD, Tape, etc.) to an Initiator machine.

The next possibility is MSDN Subscriber Downloads (passport necessary
). The link to the Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP is one the initial What’s Hot page. The link seems to be accessible without passport but I won’t post it here as MS probably has reason why it isn’t widely available. Maybe some of MS members here could. Pretty useful utility in my experience.
