Detect the microphone and speaker

Hello all,

Is there an API in the kernel mode or user mode to
detect if the mic and speaker is plugged into the
sound card?
Does the sound card hardward vendor have to provide
this function? Like detecting if there is load in the
input and output.

IIRC not so, the hardware has no such function.
