Custom commands in WIA minidriver

Hello,
I need to implement a method to pass custom commands with parameters
(ideally through user defined buffers) from a scan application to the
underlying kernel mode driver through the WIA Service layer. Is there a way
to implement it using the standard IWiaMiniDrv interfaces? Is it possible to
pass the custom commands through IStiDevice::Escape interface? Can the
application call IStiDevice::Escape function through the WIA Service?
Any pointer to the right direction will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
bkb
