COMx Friendly name assignment in Win9x needs system resources

Dear Friends,
I am installing a Virtual Serial Port driver (Vxd) on a Win 9x. I want
this port to appear as a COMx on the device listing. I first made a INF
file using infedit.exe (win95 ddk) and installed the driver. Though it
gets listed as a port under “Ports” of device manager, not “COMx” is
assigned to it. If I make entries in the inf file for allocation of system
resources (IRQ, IO port address etc) then the port appears as COM5 even
though only COM1 and COM2 are present in the system. I do not want to
waste resources on my serial port since it is virtual. So how do I get my
driver to appear as COMx without allocating resources.
Regards,
Ganesh
