checked components of windows 7

How can I get checked components such as ndis or usb?

thanks,

Get an MSDN license, go to MSDN and download the checked build of the
Windows you want. For some of the older Windows you can get much of it
by downloading the checked service pack, and grabbing the kernel, HAL,
and NDIS.sys for instance.

For newer (Vista+), you get to have SOOO much more fun:

Download the Windows ISO
Burn it or extract it (let’s say to D:)
Download the WAIK (MSDN)
Install it
Start a ‘Deployment Tools Command Prompt’
Make a directory to which you will mount the WIM image (let’s say c:\mnt)

Imagex /MOUNT 1 d:\sources\install.wim c:\mnt

When you’re done:

Imagex /UNMOUNT c:\mnt

Good luck,

mm

Thanks for all the help.
MSDN download site (under OSes) goes as far as xp and vista. Win7 is hidden from my view.

Hmm. Hidden or greyed out/unavailable?

If the former, that sounds like you’ve got an error. It does happen
depending on your license, but I can’t imagine that there is a license that
gives access to XP but not Win7. Kind of orthogonal to msft’s intererests.

If the later, perhaps you’ve got that ‘my view’ thing going or maybe you’ve
filtered with ‘architecture’ or one of those other columns somehow?

Don’t expired MSDN licenses give access to previously granted releases but not new ones? That sounds more like
it to me.

You mean like if your MSDN expired before Win7 was released, you won’t be
able to download Win7 tomorrow, but you will be able to download, say, XP or
VS2005?

I never tried an inactive MSDN license, frankly. But since it is perpetual (in most cases) and you get to keep
the licenses you had until your MSDN expired I would presume you can still download the ISOs for some time.

I have tried this, no downloads are working, and no new product key requests. I could see the pre-requested keys though.
