certmgr.msc never add certificates.

From a month ago, my windows 7 machine stop accepting any certificate I am
trying to add to certmgr.msc

It says that it was imported successfully, but the certificate never can be
seen.

This also happens if I try to create a simple KMDF project through VS2012
which creates the test certificate, and the building process fails because
it cant find a certificate.

Same project, on my other machine works just fine. I am struggling the last
month to fix it but with no luck. I have been using certificates in the
last year with no problem. something seems to break.

Any idea other then re-formatting my machine ?

Shot in the dark, but try renaming the two \Windows\system32\catroot2{GUID}\catdb files and reboot. I’ve seen them ‘corrupt’ and confuse CryptSvc. Windows will automatically regenerate the databases on the first query for cert information and this may resolve your issue.

You local user app store is IIRC somewhere in your personal AppData directory, and the machine’s one is in ProgramData (which is actually Users/LOCAL MACHINE).

It is a directory with files. You can meddle with them.

Also look at Windows event log.
