caching behaviour of redirector

hi,

is there anywhere i can find useful info on how the redirector in NT 4
caches file data, i.e. under what circumstances it cache or not cache, etc.?

See partial source code for RDBSS.SYS in NT4 IFS Kit. It is who
perform any redirector operations on network.

I think, this code is fairly the same as RDBSS.SYS but without
some exports, so you cannot compile it and trace it on the fly.

As well, I have tried to import the project into VisualStudio,
but source browser seys he cannot stay lack of some headers.

I didn’t see the source code you mentioned in IFS Kit for Win2000.Can you
tell me the path of the code?

Peter,

I think you missed the point in the previous note - the source code is in
the NT 4.0 IFS Kit. It was not included in the Windows 2000 (or XP) IFS
Kit.

hi,

i have looked into the code but the impression i get is that caching is on
by default. the only times that the lowio call is made is for non-cached
i/o.

the scenario i have seen is a file opened without specifying the
no_intermediate_buffering flag will have its write requests satisfied
directly to the target machine even though the write requests also do not
have the noncache flag. the file has been opened with the overwrite_if flag.

i tried to force a ccflush at close but it doesn’t seem to have any effect.

what can i use to determine if a file will be cached on not?
