Hello everybody.
I have little experience with kernel level development, so please be patient
if I ask dumb questions.
My company builds an embedded device. The old one used Win 95 and we are in
the process of switching to using Win 2000. The device needs a hard disk and
does much writing on the hard disk.
For Win95 we have a buffered power supply which gives time to shut down the
system properly before the power goes away.
For the new system, I would like to get rid of the power supply. If the boot
partition is never written too, the system should be able to boot no matter
when it was switched off. There is a data partition as well, but the system
is welcome to delete any damaged files on that partition.
Is it possible to boot Win 2000 from a write protected partition ? I
remember people from Microsoft telling something like that about Embedded
NT, they called it “write filter”. Embedded NT is not an option for us, we
need Win 2000. And there is no Embedded version of Win 2000.
So what would I need to block write access to the boot partition ?
Thanks in advance
