Has anyone ever run into any compatibility problems with an AMD CPU vs. an
Intel CPU? I heard that many years ago there were slight differences. Are
the AMD chips of today completely compatible with NT4, 2K, XP, 2003, etc.,
and all device and filter drivers?
Thanks.
There are subtle differences even now between processors (e.g., Intel’s
decision to support 16 byte compare exchange operations, versus AMDs
initial decision - subsequently revised - to *not* support those
operations). However, none of these are at the level where they would
impact a normal file system or file system filter driver.
If you are doing very specialized operations in a driver it might make a
difference.
If you have a specific scenario or question in mind there might be more
insight the group can offer, of course.
