I wanted to experiment(driver development on MP) with
dual processor systems, but I can’t afford Intel can I
go for AMD, I mean will it be the same as developing
on an Intel dual processor system??
A bit off topic, does anyone have any idea about
AMD64, they had promised it last year then it was
delayed till March-April '03 and their guys
here(B’lore, India) say it’ll not be coming out before
Nov-Dec '03??

The brand of processor makes no difference in regards to finding bugs
related to multithreaded issues (synchronization, locking, etc.) ALL
driver authors should test on a multi-CPU system to find these bugs.
Depending on what you’re doing with the hardware, however, it may matter
I’ll let others speak on this issue.
The AMD64 CPU for servers should be out this spring, the consumer
edition is delayed until the fall. I’d like to know when Microsoft plans
to release their version of XP for the AMD64 - the Itanium version is
already available.

You should be fine, but be sure to get “Athlon MP” processors (and an MP
capable motherboard) unlike Intel most AMD chips aren’t MP capable.
