In perusing the 5112 WDK I noted “ATA_FLAGS_NO_MULTIPLE”. Working for
Seagate, and with a great need to have the multi-sector PIO brokenness
unbroken, I wondered if this was a resolution of that problem in XP SP2 ATA
pass through? I do note that the flag is, as is the DMA flag, undocumented.
What do you know of this Doron? Peter? Tony?
Is it verboten for me to use it, and how would I use it, in my attempt to do
disc level diagnostics to see if a disc really is broke? Our testing here
has shown that ATA pass through DMA has been fixed, in XP SP2, and therefore
I assume also in Vista.

The answer from the storage folks is
A) your understanding is correct
B) it “will” be documented in the WDK (where will is a subjective term
meaning they plan to)
C) It’s up to the sustained engineering teams to decide if it goes into
SP3, which means you need to get them customer feedback that the lack of
it will stop them from upgrading.
As to the “can you use it” part - go ahead, and let the storage folks
know if it ever breaks.
