Can anyone recommend a good machine/motherboard to use for LAN adapter
testing under the 64 bit OS environments? I assume I need one that supports
at least 4 procs, 6GB, and supports all power states (S1,S3,S4).
Any recommendations?

First question would of course be “Which processor”.
For AMD64, if you want quad-cpu, you’d probably only find one or two on the
market + AMD’s internal test-platforms, which may be available to you if
you’ve got a good contact with AMD.
I wasn’t able to find a quad processor motherboard in a quick search on the
web. There’s a few companies that sell quad systems, but all that I could
find were rack-mounts, which may not be what you’d prefer. It may be an idea
to contact either Newisys or Appro (add www and com to either end for
web-sites), to see if they have any suggestions.
Dual CPU boards are available from for instance Tyan, but several others
too. There are rumours that Tyan are making a quad CPU board too. For a list
of recommended motherboards for dual CPU, go to: www.amd.com and click on
the link for “Recommended Opteron motherboards”.
Almost every available dual opteron board has at least two DIMM slots for
each processor, which means that you can use 2GB sticks and get 8GB of RAM.
Some have 4 slots, which makes it easy to get 4GB per processor with 1GB
DIMMs. A quad system should have a couple of slots per processor, if it’s
going to be a competetive solution.
Can’t say much for Itanium…

Does AMD have hyperthreading so that two processors can act like 4?
