Maybe a lot of people have faced this and I have faced it one time too many
such that gotten used to the WAR.
Why is it that once in a while the 1394 connected Windbg just stops
responding. But then again if you pull the endpoint of the cable from either
ends and reconnect it starts working. (asking just out of curiosity and can
live with the WAR honestly)
thanks

Buggy 1394 board. I had this problem, and then just recently bought several
1394 boards from OSR’s store, and they work perfectly. I haven’t had to
restart Windbg since I installed the new boards. I can’t recommend them
enough.

I’ll also pitch in that my experience when this happens is due to a
hit-or-miss with hardware selection.

I concur, hardware can make a HUGE difference. Not only in stability but in
performance. I recently bought an Adaptec CardBus 1394 host controller
which I plugged into my target. This thing is amazing. My debugging with
this guy is at least 10x faster than with any other card I have used with
the same exact host/target setup. This may have some to do with PCI
connections etc., but the fact that the speed difference can be that
dramatic was eye opening to me. I can’t even read the debug output it goes
by so fast. It pays to try out different host controllers.
