Dial-up connection always reports max port speed

Hi,

Initially my Win2K machine reported all dial-out modem
connectoins at the (more or less) actual connect speed.
Then, at one point it started reported every connection
at whatever value I have set as the maximum port speed
for the modem port (115Kbps, 57.6Kbps, etc.). This is
independent of whicher of the 10 or so different dial-up
servers I use (each with different modems and RAS boxes
on their ends).

Does anyone know how I caused this effect to occur?

More importantly, does anyone know how I can get back
the original behavior?

TIA…Cordially,

In the past, using NT4.0 with various modems, when I used the driver specifically for the modem, I’ve seen the true rate come up, but when I use the Standard Modem driver supplied with NT, I’ve always seen the Max Port Speed come up.

I think the key is in the initialization string to the
modem. IIRC, a “W2” in the init string reports the
port speed, while a “W1” reports the connection speed.
Check your modem’s inf file.
