Any experience with ATTO target mode drivers?

Hi,

I know this is a fairly esoteric subject, but there is such a wealth of knowledge and experience on this list that I thought it would be worth an ask.

Does anyone here have any experience working with the ATTO SAS or FibreChannel cards in target mode under windows?

I have a project that emulates an IBM Ultrium3 tape drive for the IBM AS/400 (iSeries,System i, whatever they are calling it his week). It works well using the ATTO fibrechannel HBA and target mode drivers.

I’m trying to update it to work with the ATTO SAS HBA and when I watch the debug output from the driver, all I see is the async event attached, then removed, then attached, then removed. The AS/400 appears to try a couple times and then quits.

Most likely my next step is to rent/buy a SAS analyzer to compare the traffic against a physical tape drive and see what’s different.

Just wanted to throw this out here in the off chance someone has done something like this before.

Thanks,
Erik

Hi, Erik.

I’m intimately familiar with the ATTO Target Mode Fibre Channel driver on
Windows. I don’t have any knowldge of the SAS version, but I’ll try to
get someone to help.

Jerry.

Hi Erik,

I don’t have a quick answer to your problem with using our SAS target mode Windows driver but you can get some help on this through our technical support channel. You can either go to our website http://www.attotech.com/support and enter your support question or email xxxxx@attotech.com directly.

They’ll make sure you’re up to date with the latest SAS Windows driver as well as the latest SAS target mode kit.

Hopefully solving this problem won’t require you to rent or buy a SAS analyzer (though those products are so useful when looking into issues like this).
