Can HP really filter Dell?

I just encountered something and I need a sanity check. I have a Dell T5500
in which I am trying to use an HP Smart Array P400. The board is installed
and connected to SAS and SATA drives for testing, but 2003 Server R2 does
not install or, from what I can tell, even enumerate the device stuck in a
PCI slot. I’ve run devcon for hwids on the system and sho’nuff, the P400
does not show up anywhere.

So, am I sane, or have I missed something?

The original Dell T5500 has PCI/PCIe slot problems. We saw this when we had multiple copies of our PCIe cards. We also found that if our card was in any slot except slot 4 the problem was seen. We spent a lot of time with Dell finding the problem. I don’t remember if different OS reveals the problem. There is a Mid-Life Kicker (MLK) version of the T5500 that corrects the issue. Contact Dell with your Service Tag number and find out if this is your problem.

Larry,

Was that MLK a BIOS upgrade, or did it include one?? Sheesh, you cannot believe the head-in-the-sand attitude you get from support, both Dell and HP in this case.

MLK was a motherboard change.

preMLK: Xeon E5506 @2.13G, 2128 MHz 4core, BIOS A03 9/9/2003

MLK: Xeon X5667 @3.07G, 3059 MHz 4core, BIOS A09 2011/04/20

Hope this helps.

How could a BIOS from 2003 ever possibly have supported a quad-core chip
that wasn’t launched until 2009? Was that a typo?

Yes, that was a typo… it should read 2009.
Sorry for that.
