Internet Symbol Server

Ever had a hard time finding symbols for Windows? Plagued by service
packs and hotfixes complicating your debugging?

Well say goodbye to your windows symbols problems. We have placed a
copy of the Windows symbols (and other products) on a internet symbol
server. See http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/debugging on how to use it.

PS: The downstream store (aka local cache) becomes a little mini symbol
server holding the symbols you pull down. If you work on a team I
recommend creating a share on a machine to hold the store for everyone
on the team. If you all use the same downlevel store then you will
benefit when you can re-use symbols that your teammates have already
pulled down from the net.

Any chance of getting the NT4 symbols (and service pack symbols) on it?
Only the ‘Option Pack’ is listed on
http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/debugging/symbols.asp

It would also be pretty cool and handy if you guys could send out a DVD
with the MSDN subscription that had a complete symbol server on it (With
all the symbols and the index on it that could be copied to a hard drive or
shared off of the dvd drive  But that’s really just a wish…

Symbols will continue to be added to the web symbol server. What
products & what timeframe, I don’t know. I’m just passing on the
announcement.

I’ll pass your second idea on.

I would take a guess that the symbols on the server are SP6+ whatever. Have
you applied the last SP?
