6.0.0017.0 and search paths

I was teaching a kernel debug lab last week and we were fortunate enough to
be able to use the new version. In doing so I noticed that the new version
does not appear to handle search paths properly. For example, I still have
some NT 4.0 dumps that I use and I normally set up a search path (something
like “c:\symbols\nt4\sp6;c:\symbols\nt4\sp5;c:\symbols\nt4\sp4” and so
forth) since I never know exactly which version the dump is against.
Unfortunately, this didn’t seem to work anymore (although it did work in
6.0.0007).

Symbol servers worked fine, so there was no problem with Windows 2000 and XP
symbols. NT 4.0 kernel symbols defy indexing however (a known problem
related to header manipulations done when the OS is loaded, or so I’ve been
told) and thus a symbol server isn’t an option for the OS symbols.

Can anyone else confirm my observation?

Tony

Tony,

I was told by someone from MS (but I don’t recall who) that you can’t list
multiple paths for the symbol path. I had something very similar for NT OS
versions and versions of my drivers and it didn’t work. I reported this
problem with either the 4.XXX version or the 6.0.0007 version.
Unfortunately I don’t have the original emails.
