HLK Camera Usage Question

I’ve asked about this before, but the issue is becoming
business-critical for my client.

We have a USB camera with a custom AVStream driver that has been
shipping for 11 years.  We have passed WHQL several times, and we
currently pass HCK.  As of now, we have one failure in the HLK – the
“record indicator” test.  If a camera has a LED indicating that it is
recording, this manual test is supposed to check that it works.  The LED
indicator is not required, and we don’t have one, but the test team
doesn’t know how to tell that to the test.  Thus, we fail the test.
I’ve told them to submit the package as is with a comment.

However, it seems like there should be a way to get an answer.  This is
not so much a technical issue as a usage issue.  I’ve asked on the WHQL
group on the MSDN forums, but no response after several weeks.  This
seems like a stupid issue to burn a tech support incident on.  The WHQL
mailing list alias now appears to be useful for nothing other than
comments about the web site.  I don’t know where to turn.

Has anyone here run a camera through the HLK?  Do you know the magic
incantation?
