RE: NTDEV: Attachment Rejected

Why do I get this message sometimes when I’m simply responding?

Dear ListMember,

For security reasons, the NTDEV and NTFSD lists do not accept messages
that are encoded in base64, messags with unusual MIME body parts (such as
audio or video) or messages that have attachments. This includes messages
with attractive little icons in your signature or whatever.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but this is
the long-standing wish of the majority of list members.

First, the forum itself isn’t the place to ask questions about forum issues. This isn’t unique to this forum… Management questions are by definition off topic.

To answer your question, before locking the thread: as it says in the message, you’ve included something the forum doesn’t allow. This can be anything from a sig that your mailer encodes as an attachment, to the propensity of some mailers to encode things using Base64 (the latter typically generates a different response message).

Given the increasing popularity of Mime Base64, the long term plan is for the site to support this encoding as issues with being able to use this for spreading viruses have largely been solved. But it’ll be a while before this comes to fruition (it is in fact tied to a complete update of OSR Online).

Thread locked. List management questions should be sent directly to the list admins.
