HCK1.6 Vs WLK

All,

we have a driver which works on XP(64) through win server 2012, but it has
only one binary across OSs.

My understanding is:

  1. WLK doesn’t allow signing for Win XP and win 2k3, which is a
    requirement for us.
  2. Win server 2012 needs SHA 256 based hashes in the catalog while the
older OSs need SHA1 based hashes.
  3. It is possible to use the same catalog file with both kind of hashes.

Questions:

  1. Is it possible to also add signing for xp and 2k3 in the same catalog
    file as win 8?
  2. Can WLK be used to sign for XP?
  3. Assuming that 2 is not possible, what will happen if we still want to
have one cat file for both XP and win 8? We generate a cat file with both
SHA1 and SHA256 hashes, then we test for XP DTM, submit the HCK package
first (with SHA1) for xp, then once we get back the signed package, we run
the WLK test for win7 through win server 2012, repackage it for HCK and
resubmit. Would MSFT strip off the older WHQL signature meant for XP and
resign the package, or would it add the new signature effectively making
the cat file valid for XP through win server 2012?

Thanks in advance

You’re asking a policy question, not a technical question.

Why not ask WHQL?
