I cannot see any new messages via NNTP, but I can with the browser
interface.

I had the same problem, my OE seemed to not be very happy after the database
restore and wouldn’t show new messages (it did let me post a message though,
so it wasn’t entirely hosed).
I don’t know if there’s a magic option to make it correct itself. I
unfortunately had to rename the DBX files and sync from scratch, hopefully
others have a better idea.
