live debug on Windows 2000 Datacenter

Can I use windbg to break into the running Windows 2000 datacenter system
from the same system ?

I need to look the thread stack entries and trace the information on the
memory page; can livekd.exe support this in the running system?

Same system kernel debugging only work on WinXP. And even then it is
more of the LiveKD (from “Inside Windows 2000”) type debugging than
SoftIce debugging. This is because the debugger is just another process
on the system and therefore the system cannot be stopped to get context
info, hit BP, etc…

To do a true kernel debug with WinDbg you will need a COM or 1394 (WinXP
only) debugging setup.
